When the PRiDE were recording The Pathway, the track they were working on just before the Ethno Instrument plug-in went tits-up was a new version of ‘Butterflies’.

Although nearly finished and only needing additional backing vocals, the track had remained shelved when The Pathway was released. The PRiDE had moved on to the First of the Bohicans project, after which they had disappeared.

The Knobster had also disappeared for a while, but after being found in a cardigan shop in Bridlington, he returned to the Bunker, where he spent time helping FrankB clean up the systems. As they were doing this, they came across the unfinished version of ‘Butterflies’.

‘You know, this sounds OK to me,’ said Knobby. ‘Does it actually need anything more adding to it?’

‘Let’s ask the Reindeer,’ said Frank. So they did.

After a bit of mug-pulling, Mr Reindeer decided that Knobby should go ahead and mix the track. He also decided that it was worth asking the Deadpan to drop by the Bunker, to see if he could add anything to the mix.

The Deadpan agreed with Knobby: the track was OK as it was. However, he was up for doing another set of vocals. Reindeer had a codge about this, then gave the go-ahead for Rex’s vocals to be replaced by Jonny, and for Knobby to remix this version as he saw fit.

This gave the Bollockbrains two new tracks to play with: one version of ‘Butterflies’ by the PRiDE and another by the PRiDE+1.

‘Why don’t we turn this into an EP?’ Knobby suggested. ‘We could include the original PRiDE version from 2004, and that remix I did a while back.’

‘A gradely idea,’ said Mr Reindeer. ‘Get to it.’

So the lad did. There was a problem when mastering, however. The original 2004 version was pulsing badly when it shouldn’t.

‘I’ll have to dig out the AW16G, and remix it,’ said Knobby.

‘OK with me,’ said Mr Reindeer.

So the old 16-track the PRiDE used to record with was located in a cupboard in the Bunker, and before long, young Knobby had a better mix of the original 2004 version coming out of the speakers.

‘Amazing what you can do when you know what you’re doing, isn’t it?’ said Izzy.

‘Shit!’ said Knobby. ‘Where the fuck did you come from?’
